Assembly Square Cushion

Assembly explores how colour and structure interact, within a regular framework, to create abstract interlocking compositions. This design came directly out of Margo’s handwoven artworks, and exemplifies the studio’s approach of Art-into-Industry.

Colour and mathematics are the twin concerns of Margo’s work – the effects of colours in combination – the relationship between colour and proportion – and the division of the rectangle. Although the approach is experimental, weaving is an extremely methodical practice, and this is reflected in the design.

Due to the scale of the design repeat, each cushion side will feature a different cut of the cloth.
