Sleek and minimal key fob made using oak-tanned leather produced in Devon, and solid brass fittings.
Each piece is created by hand from Jonathan Hyde's Sheffield based workshop. The leather is measured and cut in order to incorporate the natural markings of the hide. The raw edges are bevelled and burnished using beeswax balm to form smooth strong edges that will wear naturally over time.
The ancient craft of tanning leather is complex and fascinating. Only natural materials such as tree bark are used to tan the leather, a process which can take several months. Vegetable-tan leather is beautiful, often displays the history of life through scars and imperfections. The material will develop a wonderful patina unique to each owner and after years become a treasured object.
Hyde Wares was born from an urge to slow down, to design and make a range of leather items that would stand the test of time and grow with the owner. All items are designed and handmade by Jonathan Hyde from his workshop at Exchange Place Studios in Sheffield, part of Yorkshire Arts Space.
